Building the Resume With CLAUDE AI
The best Mercor Resume is not the fanciest Resume. It is the one that lets a reviewer quickly understand what you can do and why it is relevant.
the best way to create a Resume that actually works is by prompting your Ai properly to help create a Resume.
this is the prompt i use for mine:
Act as an expert CV strategist, senior recruiter, ATS specialist, and hiring manager for the target role.
Your task is to diagnose and rebuild the CV, not simply rewrite it. Use only the candidate’s actual experience. Never invent employers, titles, responsibilities, achievements, metrics, tools, qualifications, or results. However, aggressively uncover and reframe valuable evidence that is buried in weak wording.
1. Diagnose
Compare the CV against the job description and identify:
● Strongest selling points and relevant experience
● Undersold transferable skills
● Missing JD keywords and competencies
● Weak, repetitive, vague, or irrelevant content
● Duties that can legitimately be reframed as achievements
● Missing metrics, scale, tools, outcomes, or context
● ATS issues and likely recruiter objections
● Best positioning for the role
2. Rebuild
Create a targeted CV that clearly answers:
Who is this candidate? What are they good at? What problems can they solve? What evidence proves it?
Prioritise the most relevant experience. Make junior, freelance, internship, or unrelated experience sound strong through truthful positioning, without inflating seniority.
Rewrite bullets using:
Action + contribution + context/method + impact
Prioritise outcomes, scope, tools, frequency, audience, projects, processes, efficiency, and measurable evidence where available.
3. ATS Optimisation
Use:
● Single-column layout
● Standard section headings
● Clear dates and job titles
● No tables, graphics, icons, text boxes, or progress bars
● Natural JD keywords throughout
● Roboto 10pt and 0.75-inch margins
● Concise, recruiter-friendly bullets
● Strong action verbs
● No em dashes or en dashes
● No filler, buzzwords, keyword stuffing, or unsupported claims
Only include skills and tools genuinely demonstrated by the candidate.
4. Output
CV Diagnosis
● Biggest weaknesses
● Strongest selling points
● Missing evidence
● JD alignment gaps
● Recommended positioning
Rebuilt CV
Provide the complete ATS-friendly CV, ready to submit, with no commentary inside it.
ATS Keyword Coverage
● Important JD keywords incorporated
● Important keywords that could not truthfully be included
Recruiter Verdict
Give a blunt assessment of how competitive the CV is for the role, the 2 to 3 biggest remaining weaknesses, and what additional evidence, metrics, projects, or information would strengthen it.
Before finalising, apply a 10-second recruiter test: the target role, strongest value, relevant experience, and achievements should be immediately obvious.
The goal is not to make the CV prettier. The goal is to make the candidate as competitive and credible as possible using only truthful evidence.

LinkedIn & Portfolio
Mercor’s guidance emphasizes complete profiles, strong résumés, professional LinkedIn profiles and clear credentials.
Technical candidates may also benefit from GitHub or other proof of work.
Portfolio checklist
• Show 3–6 strong pieces instead of everything.
• State exactly what you personally did.
• Explain tools and technical decisions.
• Show outcomes only when you can substantiate them. • Keep links working.
• Never publish confidential client/project information.
Freelance work counts. A freelancer can demonstrate professional ability through client requirements,
deadlines, implementation, troubleshooting, revisions and delivered results. You do not need to pretend
freelance work was corporate employment.
Choosing Target Roles
Use a three-tier strategy
A — Strong fit
Meaning >>>>>> You meet the core requirements and can prove it.
Priorize.
B — Adjacent fit
Meaning>>>>> You have transferable experience but miss a preference.
Apply when the gap is non-critical/learnable.
C — Weak fit Meaning>>>>>> A core requirement is genuinely missing action to take
Usually skip.
Read every listing for the actual task, required experience, location/work authorization, compensation structure, time
commitment, assessment steps and project type.
PART III — YOUR PROFILE Completing Your Mercor Profile
Your profile is the foundation behind applications. Consistency matters: your CV, LinkedIn, portfolio and profile
should tell the same professional story.
• Use your real professional identity.
• Upload the latest CV.
• Describe experience specifically.
• List skills you can genuinely discuss. • Keep links current.
• Complete required eligibility information accurately. • Make availability realistic.
Need to Know
● Domain Expert Interview will pick topics from your resume, so try to study the contents and be able to defend them to some extent.
● Interviews are Live. You and your entire pc will be monitored too.
● You can "cook" a resume but try to be able to defend it.
● If you have multiple skills, include them to enable you be open to multiple types of Jobs (i.e.
a Software Engineer with software engineering work history can add "Attention to detail", "Al model evaluation",
"Microsoft Office suite", etc in their skills section)
● DO NOT WORRY about ID verification now, they only come when you have successfully secured a contract (DL & Passport works.
● NIN is not certain yet as I have yet to finish my test on that, you can reach out to me after you get an offer if that is all you have and we can try to finish my test together).
PART IV — APPLICATIONS
Finding Opportunities
Mercor’s live marketplace currently groups opportunities into categories such as Project-based, One-time and Talent
Network. Listings can have very different rates, scopes and eligibility rules.
Current marketplace examples show that compensation can range from modest hourly/task opportunities to
specialist roles paying well over $100/hour or several thousand dollars per task. This is why you should evaluate
each listing individually rather than assuming one universal Mercor rate.
1 Read the entire listing.
2 Identify non-negotiable requirements.
3 Compare them with your real experience.
4 Check location/work authorization and time commitment. 5 Check compensation and project structure.
6 Check interview/assessment/work-trial requirements.
7 Apply only when you can defend the fit.
Completing Applications
Current Mercor application guidance describes possible steps including résumé submission, work- authorization verification, AI interview and written assessments, with exact requirements varying by opportunity.
Do not submit simply because you are excited. If the CV is outdated or your answers are careless, you are submitting a weaker version of yourself.
Assessments & Written Questions
Treat assessments as demonstrations of ability, not obstacles to bypass.
• Read the rubric before answering. • Answer the exact question.
• Use concrete reasoning.
• Separate facts from assumptions. • Structure your response.
• Proofread.
• Respect confidentiality.
A useful reasoning pattern
1 Understand what is being evaluated.
2 Identify the relevant facts and constraints. 3 Analyze the evidence.
4 Make the decision/conclusion.
5 Explain why it follows.
AI-use rules can be assessment-specific. Follow the exact instructions and LLM Usage Policy attached to the
assessment you are taking.
ABOVE ALL: PRAY, OBSERVE WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND BE CONSISTENT WITH THE STRATEGY
mercor is never as easy as we make it seem on the timeline. it only rewards tenacity.
